How To Play: Monikers
A simple and fun party game where you guess the name on a card.
Each team has 60 seconds to get through as many weird, inappropriate names as they can.
In the first round, you can say anything you want. In the second, you can only use one word. And in the third, you can?t say anything at all ? just charades. The same cards are used in each round, so by the end of the game, you?ve made up a bunch of hilarious jokes together.

Pyramid Arcade Experiment #2
Hypothesis One: At least 50 JoCo2017 Cruisers will want to play our new game, Pyramid Arcade, given 100+ people did on the DiceTower Cruise in December 2016 (No pressure :)
Hypothesis Two: At least 3 people will have learned Homeworlds and challenge Andy to a game (Did you know you can win a medal if you beat Andy at Homeworlds?)

Andy Looney (and his companion Dr. Leila) will be playing/teaching pyramid games at various times throughout the cruise. Check the Looney Labs Pyramid Arcade poster in the game room, look on the door of cabin 8005, or check wherever Home Office decrees schedules shall be.

Find Dr. Leila to get an Exp# sticker for your badge. We will be playing the 22 games that come in Pyramid Arcade + Zendo, and recording which games each person plays in our Experiment Logbook. We will have a demo copy and there will be another one in the game library. If you play a game while Dr. Leila is not around, snap a picture showing the end game, your # on your badge, and a thumbs up or down depending on if you won the game. Each game you play is a chance to win!

We will raffle off the two demo copies of Pyramid Arcade on the last day of the cruise. Games played must be recorded in our Experiment Logbook to count. You get a raffle entry for each of the 23 games you play + an entry for each you won! Learn 10 games for a bonus 10 raffle entries and a Starship Captain sticker!

A beat the clock cooperative game that employs 25 dice and 65 cards. Each game is set to a ten-minute timer, and players must work together in that ten minutes to defuse all of the bombs. Test Rochi with James Ernest

Help playtest Rochi, a new gambling game which will be part of the next fantasy novel by Sonia Lyris, her sequel to The Seer.

Rochi is a gambling game for 2-8 players, played with a Tarot-style deck with six suits of different sizes. It’s a completely whole deck design, and it’s a completely different way to think about how gambling games should work. There is no betting, very little bluffing, and six different pots!

We'd like your feedback on the rules of the game, both in clarity and fun value. Come give it a try!

We will meet on the pier between 11 and 11:30 near these coordinates N 22° 52.823 W 109° 54.696 (by Captain Tony's). Then we'll wander off to do some high tech scavenger hunting! We will probably just try to find the 4 geocaches in town within a mile of the marina, but some people may attempt the more difficult ones that involve more of a hike. Pre downloading of maps and caches is a good idea, but not required, as many will have devices to share. This is also an official geocaching.com event.

Short Story Structure
When people are struggling to write short fiction, the problem usually begins with the idea. It often leads to a story that is too long, really the beginning of a novel, or so simplistic that it's dull. In this workshop, we'll walk through how to create and structure a short story idea.

Reading from The Book of Etta
I’m a Bay Area science fiction author and feminist essayist. My debut novel, The Book of the Unnamed Midwife, won the Philip K. Dick Award and was listed as a recommended work by the James A. Tiptree Award Committee. The book was also included in the 100 Best Books of the Year list by Publisher’s Weekly, and the same list issued by Amazon. I have published essays and short fiction with McSweeney’s, The Establishment, Everyday Feminism, Tor.com, LitHub, Motherboard, Compelling Science Fiction, and many other outlets. I’m part of the writer’s room for The Mess, an East Bay sketch comedy group. My second novel, The Book of Etta, will be released by 47North just before the JoCo Cruise, and I'd like to do a reading from my new book for my fellow floating nerds.

How To Play: Fuse (Board Game)
A beat the clock cooperative game that employs 25 dice and 65 cards. Each game is set to a ten-minute timer, and players must work together in that ten minutes to defuse all of the bombs. Each bomb is represented by a card which needs a certain combination of dice in order to defuse it. A player will draw a number of dice equal to the number of players out of a bag and roll them. Players must then decide who will get which dice, but each player must take one and only one.

Costume English/Contra/Square Dance Party!
Like to move your body? Want to try some new old dance styles? Like to dress in fancy or wacky costumes? How about a chance to do all these at once?

Come join Renée Camus and Cindy Lu for a group event bringing together costuming and dancing! Wear your favorite costume finery of any sort, be it historical, fantasy, sci-fi, fairy tales, vintage, or just wackadoodle! Anything goes, as long as you can move in it. Show off your raiments while dancing lots of easy group social dances, including English country dances, contra dances, square dances, perhaps a Scottish country or Irish ceilidh dance, and hopefully a Grand March—the ultimate dance for showing off your wares. This is a true community event, where everyone can participate, even if you’ve never done it before. No partner or experience necessary. And if you'd prefer not to wear a costume, that's fine too! While this is a social event more than a class, the group dances will all be taught. We might even throw in a few swings, one-steps, or waltzes too.

Do you play an instrument? Consider being a part of our open band! We plan to use recorded music, but if people are interested in playing for the dance, we might make that happen too (I’m in talks with someone about leading this Open Band). Let us know if you’d like to play, as well as dance.

Creating and Consuming Fanworks
Fanlore defines Fanworks as, "...a creative work produced by one or more fans, generally intended for other fans. A common defining phrase used in fandom is "by fans for fans,"[1] or something similar,[2] though this definition might incorporate other fan activity as well." https://fanlore.org/wiki/Fanwork

Why do we create/consume fanworks works (fanfic, vids, podcasts, etc.) What needs do these works fulfill? Where is the line between copyright and creativity? What role does the individual fandom community that work is created within play? How does fandom as an overall community play a role in these works? How is the perception of fanworks and the definition above evolving?
